Discover the Buzz: Beekeeper Jennifer Caldwell from Hives for Heroes at the Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival

We’re excited to announce that Beekeeper Jennifer Caldwell from Hives for Heroes will be joining us at the Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival! 🐝 Jennifer will be hosting an informative and interactive presentation at the Kerens Library, offering insights into the fascinating world of beekeeping and the incredible work Hives for Heroes is doing in collaboration with ENEL Energy.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Slideshow Presentation: Jennifer will share the inspiring story behind Hives for Heroes, a national non-profit organization that supports Active Duty, Veterans, and First Responders by providing connection, purpose, and healthy relationships through beekeeping.
  • Beekeeping Demonstration: Dive into the world of bees with a hands-on demonstration of beekeeping equipment and an observation hive, where you can see the bees at work up close!
  • Hives for Heroes & ENEL Energy: Learn about how Hives for Heroes collaborates with ENEL Energy to promote sustainability and conservation through their shared commitment to the environment and the community.

Hives for Heroes is all about fostering growth and healing through the art of beekeeping. This special program offers veterans and first responders the opportunity to transition into civilian life by connecting them with beekeepers nationwide, providing access to resources, funding, and mentorship.

Be sure to stop by the Kerens Library to meet Jennifer and discover more about this amazing organization! Whether you’re curious about bees, conservation, or supporting our nation’s heroes, this presentation is a must-see at the festival. 🌼

New Addition to the Festival!

Meet the Indian Trail Master Naturalist

We’re thrilled to introduce a new addition to the festival this year! An Indian Trail Master Naturalist will be in the library, ready to share their knowledge about Texas’s unique wildlife and natural habitats and provide some activities for the kids.

The Texas Master Naturalist program is a partnership among the AgriLIFE Extension, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and over 300 local partners. This unique volunteer organization trains individuals through a rigorous program, requiring a minimum of 40 hours of field and classroom instruction, 8 hours of advanced training, and 40 hours of volunteer service.

Since 1998, over 6,000 volunteers across 42 local chapters have dedicated more than 1.2 million hours to enhance wildlife and native plant habitats, reaching millions of people with their expertise. The Master Naturalist at our festival will provide valuable insights and answer any questions you have about conservation and nature in our beautiful state.
